2 DIY Recipes for Cleansing Your Skin with Oils

2 DIY Recipes for Cleansing Your Skin with Oils

Not many people would consider using oil to cleans their face. This week an article on the best oil cleansing products caught my eye.  It has been some years since I formulated my first skin cleansing products using carrier oils.  I am going to share these two recipes with you.

It was a time of discovery for me as I learnt about the effectiveness of Castor Oil as the constant ingredient to practically and that many people were fearful about using oils in their skin cleansing routine.  Their main fear was that the oil would clog their skin and cause skin problems including breakouts. In fact, many products actually advertised being “oil free”.  In fact, many modern products set out to strip as much oil from the skin as possible, so I was pleased to see some products that would dispel the myths and fears of applying oil to the skin.

If you have ever heard of the Oil Cleansing Method, you will know that the premise is that “like attracts like”.  Simply speaking “Oil dissolves oil”. It will attract and remove traces of grime and sebum without stripping or irritating your skin.  The OCM method works with your natural skin process. Your skin naturally produces oil to help lubricate, heal, protect and moisturise your skin.  Thankfully there is more awareness of oils as a skin cleansing method. I am going to share with you my first two oil cleansing blends. As you would expect they are very simple to formulate.  Simple but effective. Both you can easily create at home.

The first I called Oil2Oil Cleanser. A simple name to match the simplicity of the product. This is an ideal product for dry skin.  It does contain essential oils, but I must say that it is not necessary for you to add this. I did this only to give it a nice fragrance.

Now two words of caution. The first will sound strange.  Be careful not to  “overdo” the OCM method as you can dry out the skin.  That said by creating your own cleaning oil blend you can adjust the portions of your blend to your particular skin.  For me that is the best part of making your own skin care products. You know exactly what is in them and you can adapt them to your personal needs.

The second caution is that for some people the OCM method, their skin gets worse before it gets better. This is often due to the effectiveness of this method in drawing out impurities in the skin. This may last about a week.
