Vetiver - Oil Profile

Vetiver – Oil Profile

Vetiver has a deliciously rich, sensuous and earthy aroma.   It is highly valued for its strengthening, tonic, grounding and regenerative effects. It is able to support and stabilizes the nervous system. Mainly chosen for its ability to soothe and comfort body and mind.

Vetiver is also in high demand by perfume makers, where it is used in 90% of perfumes for its fixative qualities. It holds lighter top notes to the skin for longer.

If you have ever bought Vetiver you will notice it is quite costly.  Knowing it was a grass, I initially could not understand the value of this oil.  I am now wiser on the topic and will share it with you.

I delayed in adding this oil to my retail collection until I saw how clients responded to its aroma. It was the way I respond to rose e.g. “the smell being the nearest thing to heaven”.  Then I started to notice similarities in the type of people who responded to this aroma.  They what would I call “earthy people” very grounded.   Guess what the primary benefit of Vetiver is? Grounding.   Draw your own conclusions on “cause and effect”.

Here are some of the reported benefits:

  • Promotes restful sleep.
  • Relaxing, calming.
  • Restores one’s connections to his/her roots.
  • Awakens sexual desire.
  • Helps ease a tired mind.

Body Mind Spirit  – Diffuser Blend

Vetiver                       – 6 drops
Chamomile               – 6 drops
Bergamot                  – 6 drops

To make a massage blend just add the blend to your 30 ml of your favourite carrier oil.

This oil was not one I studied during training.  I have since learned that despite it being a “grass” the best quality Vetivert comes from roots of 18-24 months old. It takes about distillation and then several more months to mellow and deepen. This is an oil that improves with age, just like sandalwood and patchouli, so I don’t worry too much if it does not sell quickly.

The plant is also grown and highly valued for its environmental qualities.  Because the grass has a special appetite for pesticides and agricultural toxins, it is now used in over a hundred countries for phytoremediation purposes, helping to cleanse the environment in the same way that medicinal plants detoxify the organs of the body.
